Purple Mint
“The Real Generation” series
An exploration of colour, perception and self-discovery through the eyes of a 19-year-old British-French boy.
Falko left Paris for London to escape the rigid, conservative norms of French society, which still views dyed hair as feminine. Always smiling, though he dislikes it being noted. He finds creativity in small moments—crafting necklaces from clothing pendants, effortlessly remembering 800 song lyrics, and playing drums with intuitive ease. His French sounds like poetry, and his heart is fully set on music.
When I mentioned the taste of “blueberry cigarettes is purple,” Falko responded: “You have to follow the world’s definition, otherwise others won’t understand.” This reflects his inner conflict—caught between conforming to societal expectations and craving for individuality. His innocence, marked by a restlessness youth, reflects the tension between purity and the desire to rebel. Tall, charismatic, musically inclined, and quick-witted, he’s still shaping his worldview, navigating the pressures of a rigid society.
Young people are pure but unsettled, and "Purple Mint” seeks to capture that transient moment, where potential and rebellion coexist, as yet unclaimed by adulthood.
